Bio

“I view photography as an inexplicable chase after the utterly transient through a vexing and interminable state of flux.”   –Ryan Ewart

Ryan Ewart is a self-taught fine art photographer and poet who was born and raised in Saint Charles, IL.  He has lived in Chicago with his wife, Kristy, and their cats, Maynard and Jackie, since 2008.

Ryan uses modern DSLR cameras and a relatively antiquated bellows and lens system which requires a slow and deliberate approach relative to standard camera and lens systems.  At the same time, this unique combination of equipment frees his creativity and allows him to capture images in a manner that would not otherwise be possible.

Ryan’s influences come mostly from literature, music and film rather than photography and traditional art. One example of this is his photograph titled White Whale, which was inspired by both the Herman Melville novel, Moby Dick, and the music album Leviathan by Mastodon, which itself was inspired by the same novel.

In the end, regardless of his inspiration, his true intention is to bring into focus that which would otherwise go unseen and to give nature its due regard.
